What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a serious global healthcare problem, third only to obesity and cardiovascular disease. It is a bone disease characterized by low bone mass and micro-deterioration of bone tissue leading to bone fragility and increased risk of fractures.

200 million people worldwide have this condition.

Older individuals are at a greater risk for developing osteoporosis.

33% of women and 20% of men over 50 years of age will experience osteoporotic fractures.

24% of those who experience a hip fracture over 50 years of age will die within the first year after the fracture.

Prior to osteogenic loading technology and the BioDensity System, physicians had few options other than to prescribe **medications** to combat osteoporosis and osteopenia. Biodensity acts upon the trabecular bone creating a new stronger inner lattice
Pharmaceuticals typically only act on the cortical bone, or outer structure.

The NON-pharmaceutical BioDensity System enables you to generate a brief but adequate force on your musculoskeletal system, resulting in bone remodeling. These adaptive responses are perfectly natural, and the results are both real and measurable.

Studies have shown that once-weekly BioDensity sessions can improve bone density to combat osteoporosis and osteopenia, as well as improving lipids and blood sugar (A1C) measurements in type 2 diabetes.

Bone density peaks for an individual around age 25. Maximizing this is critical. At around age 30, the continual process of bone resorption occurs at a slightly faster rate than bone formation causing a gradual but steady decline in the amount of bone mineral in the skeleton by approximately 1% each year. Women also experience rapid bone loss during and after menopause.

A medical diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia is usually confirmed by a DEXA scan. The amount of bone density loss is reported to you as a T-score. A T-score of -1 to -2.4 indicates you are osteopenic which is the precursor to osteoporosis, while a T-score of -2.5 or below is considered osteoporotic. For some, the first indication of low bone density is a fracture. For others, it could be the results following a DEXA scan ordered by their physician. Numerous risk factors can increase the likelihood of a fracture. Some of these risk factors are within your control, some are not.

In addition to age, factors that increase the risk of osteoporosis may include:

  • Genetics or family history

  • Low body weight (BMI)

  • Poor nutrition

  • Eating disorders

  • Low dietary calcium intake

  • Vitamin D insufficiency

  • Amenorrhea

  • Postmenopausal

  • History of cancer

  • History of excessive alcohol use

  • History of tobacco use

Why bioDensity?

"As a consequence of primary shape variations and continuous loading … bone changes it's inner architecture according to mathematical rules and, as a secondary effect and, governed by the same mathematical rules, also changes it's shape."

Dr. Julius Wolff

BioDensity optimizes your ability to create osteogenic loading, which results in increased bone density and stronger muscles. Forces generated during osteogenic loading trigger the body's own natural ability to increase its bone density. The concept of osteogenic loading has been reported in the scientific literature since the late 1800's with the work of Dr. Julius Wolff.

BioDensity's osteogenic loading exercise helps maintain and rebuild bony structure. Prior to osteogenic loading technology and the bioDensity system, physicians had few options other than to prescribe medications to combat osteoporosis and osteopenia. The non-pharmaceutical bioDensity system enables you to generate a brief but adequate force on your musculoskeletal system, resulting in bone remodeling. These adaptive responses are perfectly natural, and the results are both real and measurable.

Each once a week session takes 15 mins, starting with a brief warm-up on a vibrational Power Plate, followed by 4 simple exercises on the BioDensity machine, and concluding with some balance training on the Power Plate.

Your BioDensity experience can also be rolled into a comprehensive 55 min session including Foundation Training for posture training, and Pilates Reformer and Yoga for mobility.
